GOLD BEACH, ORE - Two Gold Beach residents out picking mushrooms, north of the Gold Beach area, made a much more serious discovery on Wednesday afternoon. Finding human remains in a forested area.

According to the Curry County Sheriff's Office, Sheriff John Bishop and three of his men responded to the area along with a pair of Oregon State Police Troopers Wednesday night.

Due to the condition of the body, they were not able to determine the gender or the cause of death, only that the person appears to have been dead for several months.

Thursday morning, Deputies and members of the Curry County Search and Rescue Team returned to search the area and found additional items that may help identify the deceased.

The person was wearing blue jeans, a blue jean jacket with white fleece lining, and a blue-green, 21-speed, bicycle was nearby. Also found nearby was a black backpack, with green trim.

The Curry County Medical Examiner will try to determine a cause of death.

Anyone with information that may help identify the deceased person found in the woods near the Old Coast Highway, north of Gold Beach, should contact the Curry County Sheriff's Office.
