NORTH BEND, Ore. -The battle over the old Bangor School site has temporarily come to a close, after the North Bend City Council agrees to change the residential zoning of the site to a commercial property.

The zoning changes that were proposed at the City's last council meeting, was postponed until Tuesday, when Councilors and Mayor Rick Weatherall could review a rebuttal, written by Bangor LLC's lawyer, in regards to 35-page letter, submitted two weeks earlier, by opponent, Mike Dean, a concerned neighbor on Madrona St.

He and several others in the area voiced concerns about this proposed shopping center and the effect it could have on the neighborhood, since they were first notified earlier this summer.

Trying to handle it fairly said Mayor Weatherall, he and councilors agreed to change the Bangor zone from residential, to commercial, adding the four resolutions made by the Planning Commission, in which it excluded access on to Madrona St., as well the recommendation from Councilor Mike Erbele, to restrict signage to follow the Residential Code on the far West side of the building.

Bangor LLC will now have to file for necessary building permits before they return back to the North Bend Planning Commission.

Neighbors in the Bangor area declined to comment.
