COOS BAY, Ore. - A two week span of good weather earlier this month has helped construction crews working on the new Coos Bay Fire Station, to make a lot of progress on the building itself.

We took a peak at the new building this week, and it's beginning to look more and more like a fire station.

Rod Lee Project Supervisor with Team Construction, says the cold, but clear days we had at the beginning of December, helped his crews get a lot of work done.

"By next Wednesday, we should be completely framed out for all rough framing and blocking. We finalized the sheeting on the roof of the truck bay area today. I would expect right after the first of the year, we'll start putting metal roofing on here. We're approximately halfway through the project."

Coos Bay Fire Chief Stan Gibson, says it's amazing how much the site has transformed over the past month.

"The building just changes every time you turn around and so what we have now is, we have all 21,000 square feet that is under roof. So we're beginning to get a feel for just how large this structure is," says Gibson.

The department is now looking ahead, toward purchasing furniture and other items for the new station.

According to Lee, construction on the station should be complete by May of 2010.
