Maritime exhibit as popular as ever

Coos Bay- The Coos Art Museum celebrates the fourteenth year of their maritime exhibit, honoring one of the founding artists of the entire event.

Artists from all over the country who share a passion for maritime art dawn their favorite pieces on the Coos Art Museum once again for one of their most popular exhibits.

Featured artist Dutch Mostert has been inspired by the coast ever since he moved to North Bend years ago, and after helping start up the exhibit, he's finally feeling what an honor it is to have his artwork featured as the main exhibit.

"Looking at all the other featured artists we've had and the quality of their work, it's an amazing group of people. I'm thrilled to be associated with that group of people and it's just an honor to be chosen."

Other high honors handed out at the awards show included the people's choice, the Port of Coos Bay's selection... the Board's selection and best in show.

Director of Development at the Coos Art Museum Ciara VanVelsor says it's the maritime exhibit that really puts them on the art circuit map, and she's pleased to see such a positive reaction from the community.

"What the museum decided to do was open it up to the public so they can come meet the artists and celebrate the work with them. We have a seafood barbecue and an art auction, so the artists donate artwork for auction and you have some really great quality work that everyone's exposed to and can even buy."

All proceeds from the opening event and auction benefit the Coos Art Museum.
