Joyriders get stuck in a sandy situation out on dunes
By KCBY StaffHAUSER, Ore. - A late night joy ride lands two Lakeside residents in some soft sand out on the dunes, reminding folks that each ride is different from the one before. Monday morning, passerby's saw an unusual view at the bottom of the dune. The driver of a four runner SUV, visibly seen from Spinreel Road, apparently thought he was driving into the Spinreel Campground. "You don't normally see a full-sized vehicle down there at the bottom, it's something that is just about impossible to get outta there," said Rich Burkholder of Sprinreel Dune Buggy and ATV. The eastern side of the dunes are known to locals as hole-shots, and most of the time, an area, local ATV rental shops tell folks to stay out of. "It's the real steep, soft areas where the wind tends to pile up, there's a lot of water at the bottom, there's no way out at the bottom, usually have to go down in there turn around and come back up and you usually need a pretty hot bike to get in and out of there, not a Toyota 4Runner." A towing company will now have to wench the SUV out of the 300 foot drop, a costly reminder to folks hitting the dunes. |
