Marshfield students raise money, donate time to area non-profit
By Kristina Nelson, KCBY NewsCOOS BAY, Ore. - Feeding hungry children is the mission of a group of local high students, who are raising thousands of dollars for one local non-profit. All school year long, contestants with the Mr. MHS program have been raising money through various fundraisers to support Oregon Coast Community Action's Share Bear Snack Pack Program. On Monday, the group were at the South Coast Food Share Warehouse, helping pack snacks for area children, and told us why this non-profit is so close to their hearts. "Previously we would send out money out of the community, and so we wanted to keep it in the community and the Share Bear Snack Pack program went to elementary kids which we were wanting to focus more on kids and helping help our community," says Marshfield student Mr. MHS coordinator Kayla Thompson. So far they've raised $10,000 for the program, but they're not stopping there. "We are continuing to raise more, I think we're up to $12,000 now. So, our pageant is like three and a half weeks away, so we're going to try and get as much money as we can before that," says Thompson. Up next for the contestants, a friendly volleyball game fundraiser against North Bend Mr. Bulldog contestants on Tuesday, March 30, at 7 p.m. at Marshfield. |
