Boat capsizes south of Coos Bay
By KCBY.com staffCOOS BAY, Ore. - Another boater rescued a man from the Pacific Ocean after the victim's 16-foot boat capsized a mile from the South Jetty, the U.S. Coast Guard said. The victim was taken to the Coast Guard station in North Bend and treated for hypothermia. Coast Guard Group North Bend, Ore., received a call at 9:35 a.m. reporting a capsized vessel. Two boats and a helicopter launched to assist. One of the Coast Guard boats picked up the man from a Good Samaritan's boat. The other boater had stopped and pulled the victim aboard before heading back to shore. Members of the Good Samaritan's family have identifited him to KCBY as being Travis Wendelin, 27. They say Wendelin and his father were in the nearby vessel and when they learned that the man was still tied to his overturned vessel Travis Wendelin went into the water to cut him free before helping him onboard.
