Coos County sheriff addresses shootings, 2nd Amendment

COOS COUNTY, Ore. -- Coos County Sheriff Craig Zanni released a letter to citizens on Wednesday, on the heels of several county sheriffs writing letters to the vice president regarding new gun control legislation.
In a letter released Wednesday afternoon, Zanni said that those who are in leadership roles should, "avoid making hasty decisions or taking positions that impact the rights of all people."
Sheriff Zanni writes that he supports the second amendment and he will continue to be an, "avid supporter of Oregon's Concealed Handgun License Program."
Sheriffs from all over Oregon have been writing letters to Vice President Biden this week, saying that they will not enforce new gun regulations that are deemed to be unconstitutional.
Crook County Sheriff Jim Hensley said Tuesday he sent the same letter to Biden that was sent Monday by Linn County Sheriff Mueller.
When Mueller's letter hit the Internet, it quickly went viral on social media sites.
Reached by phone on Monday afternoon, Mueller said he decided to write the letter after he and his deputies kept hearing questions from Linn County residents about their positions on the gun control debate.
“I told my deputies, ‘Hey look, I’m not going to turn otherwise honest citizens into criminals because of some misguided efforts from the U.S. Capitol,’” Mueller said.
Earlier in the day, Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin also released a letter he sent to the vice president. Sheriff Hanlin writes that he agrees with Mueller, and will not direct his deputies to enforce any "unconstitutional directives."
Wednesday morning, President Obama outlined a series of executive orders addressing gun control issues, as well as outline what legislation he expected congress to pass.
The Coos County sheriff's office has confirmed that Zanni will be holding a press conference at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, at the South Coast Education Service District in Coos Bay.
This is a developing story, and will be updated throughout the day.
It's a reasonable letter. Â I'm glad this sheriff isn't one of those "I don't like what's happening so I'm going to decide not enforce new laws" insurrectionist sheriffs, like the ones in Douglas, Crook, and Linn Counties.
It's simple copy and paste even a 5th grader can do it...---... > Â Â Â constitution.org/uslaw/16amjur2nd.htm
I would advise reading contitutional law and then also (balashark).( NOW)My 2 cents, On entering this world our starting-point is ignorance.None, however, but idiots remain there...---... ;)

I just read all 23 Executive Orders and I know the "new gun regulations' means banning assault weapons. So, I educated myself before making this comment:Â "Sheriffs from all over Oregon have been writing letters to Vice President Biden this week, saying that they will not enforce new gun regulations that are deemed to be unconstitutional."Â I believe those sheriffs should review the oath they took when they were sworn in. They swore to UPHOLD the law. The legislative branch makes laws. Laws are written, discussed and voted on in Congress (or by Executive Order), not by sheriffs or other law enforcement. The President is the head of the executive branch, which makes laws official. The judicial branch explains the meaning of the Constitution and laws passed by Congress. The Supreme Court is the head of the judicial branch. Unlike a criminal court, the Supreme Court rules whether something is constitutional or unconstitutionalâwhether or not it is permitted under the Constitution; again not by sheriffs or other law enforcement.
i respectfully  respond to your post, and i do appreciate what you have said, however-- executive laws are for for executive branch, that is why they are called executive law and those laws do not apply to citizens or states, they do not have to be enforced and if the president or congress passes and unconstitutional law its void anyways due to the fact unconstitutional laws are not legal laws or enforceable as such.
so just because the president says so, does not make it so. Thats why these and many other officers will not enforce such a law, beside it does not stand to fix the problem of criminals getting fire arms besides the laws. They shooter at sandy hook KILLED his own mother and STOLE lawfully bought firearms  to use in that terrible crime.
thank you
@CaptchaThis A Republic means your Rights are inalienable...they can't be taken away. It isn't up for debate, either. The Founding Fathers made this SOLID. Anyone who thinks they can take those rights away is treasonous. AND, another thing, the 10th Amendment explains States have supreme powers. Even the Supreme Court has no power over each State's Supreme Court.
Â
Sheriffs have ALWAYS been the power who decides if the Federal Govt can come into his/her county at all.  The US Govt is CORRUPT, Congress is so compromised they've reduced themselves to International Banker minions, insider traders and corporate wannabes. They don't work for you.Â
Â
Sorry Captcha, but it's YOU who needs to go back and reread the Constitution, Bill of Rights and the Oath.
@CaptchaThis Did you educate yourself on the Gun walker program? How about when Obama decided to start bombing Libya?Amongst other things.Do you really think all his E.O.s are constitutional? Some concerning mental health are reasonable. The criminal background checks are what they were suppose to be doing, but universal?I think not.My doctor asking if I have guns?Is she a gun expert now?I don't pretend to know her job.
Kinda like would I ask her if she uses tampons or kotex...not gonna happen.
Yes a sheriff is sworn to uphold the law and the constitution of the United States,(which is more then a lot of the politicians in D.C. are doing.)
NOT to just go blindly along or in other words "I was just following orders".
BY THE WAY I LIVE IN LINN COUNTY and what our sheriff and the others are doing is a credit to our Constitution.
@CaptchaThis granted what you have said has some validity to it, unfortunatly the constitution is being manipulated via a horrific event in order to appease the squeaky wheels. what people call assault weapons for the most part are not. read this about the difference of the two.... http://civilliberty.about.com/od/guncontrol/a/Assault-Weapons.htm   Â
Â
if we the people continue to turn a blind eye to what is going on we will end up a mindless socialist community, county, country...... we do have rights and if our law enforcement choose to uphold those rights more power to them!
