Sherri Merritt, better known around town as the Lavender Lady, is currently busy harvesting her lavender. Although a lack of sun has delayed harvest for a few weeks, she says they are plentiful.

Merritt also likes to provide those who come by her garden with some helpful hints on how a new type of growing can be beneficial.

"I'm always trying to teach people about sustainable growing and I want them to see that it can be done on a small parcel of land, and in sequence with nature. And it turned out wonderfully."

In addition to her lush lavender plants, Merritt has also added a pretty labyrinth garden for visitors to enjoy.

Merritt says her six years of growing lavender, and more recently herbs and vegetables, has benefited her land as well.

"It's brought in a lot of bees and butterflies and hummingbirds. A lot of beneficial insects, including the wild honey bees which we all need."
