Pulp mill lays off 180

The Pope & Talbot Halsey pulp mill will process the last of its inventory and shut down.

HALSEY, Ore. - By Sunday, May 11, 180 employees at a Halsey pulp mill will be out of a job.

The employees at Pope & Talbot's pulp mill in Halsey will process the current inventory until it's gone. That should take about 48 hours.

A company spokesman said there are no plans to reopen the mill, but nothing is final yet.

The Halsey mill started opeartions in 1968.

Last November, the company Pope & Talbot filed Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code and is undergoing restructuring.
