Reptile exhibit at the Coos County Fair looks to change perceptions
MYRTLE POINT, ORE - Back by popular demand, the Brad's World Reptiles exhibit is back at the Coos County Fair and they are once again showing off more than just your garden variety snake.
Danielle Cangemi says they have a wide variety of snakes, that is true, but they also bring lizards, turtles, even an American Alligator named "Bonnie."
"We are a reptile education and breeding facility," says Cangemi, about the Corvallis based group. And part of their mission to visit schools and Fairs to give youngsters and their families a chance to interact with the reptiles that they wouldn't ordinarily come across.
It's an effort to try and break-down the old stereotypes and fears about reptiles. Cangemi says they like to get them up close and personal, giving the fair-goers a chance to pet a snake and " learn that not all snakes can hurt you, in fact if it doesn't have venom there's very little it can do to you."
They will be putting on their hands-on show two more times this Saturday, August 1, at noon and 3:30 p.m., but you can also stop by their exhibit.
