COOS BAY, Ore. -Hoping to break the bank for a good cause, team captains get a jump-start on this weekends Annual Relay for Life Ceremony.

After rounding up the funds, a representative of one of the 48 South Coast teams came into Sterling Savings Bank in Coos Bay Wednesday, to drop off what money they've made so far.

According to Amber Nicholson, with the American Cancer Society, "This year our goal is $100,000 and we have high hopes, we're looking forward to reaching our goal. The majority of the money stays here in the North Bend/Coos Bay community.  It goes to cancer research, education and patient services, early detection and advocacy."

According to the American Cancer Society, one in three individuals will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Volunteers tell us that's why funding for events like this is so important.

"You know it's amazing," says South Coast Co-Chair Connie Bradley. "My grandfather past away from Prostate Cancer and that's why I started Relay for Life. And I just wouldn't be anywhere else, this is were I need to be. I can do the best work here."

This year's 15 Annual South Coast Relay for Life kicks off at Sunset Middle School at 11 AM on Saturday, July 27.
