COOS BAY, Ore. Talk about a power house, as one local Senior citizen is pushing the limits and breaking records.

At 62 years old, Larry Muth has recently broken another World Record in his age and weight division, deadlifting 336 pounds.

He works out seven days at week at the SOCC Rec Center. But Muth has been lifting weights since he was in high school, before he even knew Powerlifting was a sport.

"I deadlifted 425-450 at 130 pounds, 17 years old and never even knew there was a meet," said Muth. "But I'd been working out all the time, never even knew what a deadlift was."

Come the late 70's, early 80's, Muth says the sport took off and he's been competing ever sense.

"The competitions, they're fun and you're probably around the strongest people walking on the face of the earth."

But you don't have to be big to be a Powerlifter. Competing at less than 125 pounds, Muth credits his success to hard work and good genes.

"It's one of the reasons I get to lift there because there's nobody that can get down that low," said Muth. "Most people that are 148 or so are shorter than I am, and I'm about 5'5"."

Earlier this Summer, Muth competed at the 2010 Great Northern Bench Press and Deadlift Championships in Olympia Washington. In two tries he beat the Master's World Record, and for Muth, that was enough.

"I could have done another lift, but I get to lift until I'm 67 years old in this class. Unless somebody comes along and annihilates me, maybe next year go back and set another World Record."

But it's not all about the records and trophies, which he has an abundance of. Muth says it's also a passion for good health.

"It isn't only your body but it's starting to show that your brain is very involved with aerobics and even weightlifting and stuff like that and hopefully live a little longer."

So how long will Muth keep pushing on? As of now, he's set the bar at least 67. But he says his body will know when enough is enough.

"You're only one lift away from being injured when you can't do this anymore," said Muth. "But I mean, I've got aches and pains all the time but I just keep going."
