Mayor Keith Tymchuk remarked that "good things come to those who wait" as community members came together to celebrate the opening of the waste water treatment facility in Reedsport.

11 years after it's first conceptualization, residents of Reedsport came out for a ribbon cutting ceremony Monday.
The $14 million expansion project to the existing waste water treatment facility began in early 2008.
And Mayor Tymchuk believes, this new facility will serve the community for years to come.

"10 years from now, 15 years from now, the city of Reedsport is going to look back on these councilors that were here and they're gonna say they did a heck of a thing because they were looking for the community's future and looking at it to protect that," says Tymchuk. "We now have a facility that was badly needed."

The expansion project came about after the Department of Environmental Quality requested that the plant be expanded.
The Reedsport city manager says the former facility was exceeding the limitations of discharge into the Umpqua River.
Now, utility lead worker, Robin Morgan believes the fluids leaving the facility are cleaner than what's already in the river.

"Learn how to make a real nice product out of a poison, polluted product," says Morgan. "We've had a real good record of making clean water and usable fertilizer sludge out of the stuff that's come through these plants."

The expansion of the new facility shouldn't need any more upgrades for a while it's expected to last the community for the next 45 years.
