COQUILLE, Ore. -At a time when most public schools are working with a bare bones budget, Lincoln Elementary in Coquille is at the peak of their classroom technology, after receiving a generous donation from a local business.

A total of seven Smart Boards, equipped with document cameras and projectors are now up in each of their classrooms. The $8,800 it cost to put them in was completely funded by the local branch's Oregon First Community Credit Union.

"The profits that we receive at the Credit Union, we return to our members and to our community" said Representative Traci Gederos. Also a volunteer at the school, Gederos adds, "And this was an opportunity that we could actually help with the technology needs of the school."

Lincoln Principal Geoff Wetherell says they were able to install all the boards at the end of last year and this Summer, which will be a huge boost to get everyone on the same page, or wall in this case.

"Smart Boards are really important, especially to an Elementary school because technology is a big focus in the State and the earlier that the children are exposed to it, the more competent they're going to be as they get older," said Wetherell.

Kindergarten Teacher Jennifer Boettcher boasted the interactive benefits as well. "I've had the opportunity to get kids to actually move things, where they're actually moving across their mid-line, which really increased their ability to retain what they're learning."

To date, Oregon First Community Credit Union has given out over $55,000 to schools and non-profit organizations in the State.
