COQUILLE, Ore. – November's General Election is five weeks away but time is ticking for new voters to register. And for the online savvy, a new state service is making it easier to get signed up.
Ballots will be mailed out to the majority of voters on Oct. 15, which means voter registration must be completed beforehand. New this election season is a service provided on the Secretary of State's website, allowing Oregon voters to register online.
Coos County Clerk Terri Turi says it could generate a whole new voter population.
"We've had a few people register to vote online and it's worked very well," Turi said. "And it seems to be growing in popularity, possibly targeting some younger citizens who have yet to register to vote and get engaged in the electoral process. It's up and coming."
To register online, go to the "Register Now" link at OregonVotes.org. To find out if you're already registered, or to change your voting information, click "My Vote" and fill in the information accordingly.
The deadline to register, or submit a change of address, is Oct. 12.
