Fairview teen dies in ATV accident in Winchester Bay

Winchester Bay - An ATV accident Friday evening in Winchester Bay leaves one person dead and others injured.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, the accident occurred at 5:40 pm 1/4 mile south of Banshee Hill on the Dunes in Winchester Bay.

The accident involved two vehicles, a four wheel ATV occupied by 16 year old Eric Blomdahl of Fairview, Oregon and a Hotrail Sandcar occupied by two passengers.

Law enforcement officials say Blomdahl was traveling southbound on the sand at a high rate of speed when he came out from a sand dune and struck the passenger side of the Hotrail Sandcar.

One passenger in the sandcar was transported to the hospital for a broken leg.

Blomdahl was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Douglas County Sheriff's office say they have notified his family.
