BEND, Ore. (AP) — Authorities say a 12-year-old girl was seriously injured when she slipped and fell 40 feet into the Crooked River Canyon in central Oregon.
Deputies say she and other children were playing too close to a cliff when she slipped.
Rescuers rigged a rope system to rappel down and reach the girl, bringing her up in a stretcher in a two-hour effort. She reportedly was conscious when rescuers reached her.
She was flown to Portland's Oregon Health & Science University, where she was listed in critical condition Thursday night.
