Arrest made in antelope dumping case

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. -- Police have made an arrest in the case of the antelope bodies found near Sutherlin.

Randall Smithey, 46, was arrested Thursday evening on two charges of waste of a game mammal and placing offensive substances on another's property.

Five antelope were found on Seneca Timber Company land about a mile south of Highway 138.

Several tips from the public led troopers to Smithey. The informants said that Smithey had harvested the animals in Wyoming, then transported them to Sutherlin on September 29.

Troopers searched Smithey's home, and seized a Remington .223 rifle along with other evidence.

Smithey was booked at the Douglas County Jail and released.

Officials say that other charges may be pending as they continue the investigation.

The reward for information on this case was recently raised to $3,500.
