NORTH BEND - Showing their true patriotic spirit, two area high schools are looking for donations to help out the men and women serving overseas.

Calling it their "Adopt a Soldier" project, from now until mid-April, students from North Bend and Marshfield High School's Upward Bound programs are collecting donations to give to the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Using the web site, anysoldier.com, North Bend High students are collecting items, like board games, cds and magazines, whereas, Marshfield High students are asking for non-perishable food.

Students from Upward Bound feel it's important at any age to do service projects, like this one, for many reasons.

Their goal is to ship out 10 boxes full of items by the end of the school year, and they're also looking for cash donations from businesses to help sponsor mailing costs.

They'll be accepting donations in Room 6 at North Bend High School and Room 137 at Marshfield High School. For more information, you can email lryan@socc.edu.
