PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - A snow advisory is now in effect for the Northern and Southwest Washington Cascades.

Cities affected include Government Camp, Detroit, Santiam Pass, McKenzie Bridge, the Willamette Pass and Mount St. Helens.

The advisory is in effect until 3 p.m. Monday.

Snow showers will be heavy at times in the Cascades through the early afternoon. The National Weather Service says the snow will decrease Monday evening.

Meteorologists say 4 to 7 inches of new snow is expected with the heaviest amounts up at the ski resorts. The lower amounts will occur at the Cascade Passes.

A snow advisory means be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities. Motorists are advised to use caution while driving.
