PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - The price of beer went up sharply over the weekend in Oregon, hitting $707 a bottle - for medical research.

Portland brewer Alan Sprints donated five 12-ounce bottles of his 1994 Hair of the Dog Dave to the charity auction for Parkinson's disease research.

The bottles sold for prices ranging from $478 to $707 during the rare beer auction that raised $15,000 in honor of British writer and journalist Michael Jackson, who died last year of a heart attack after suffering from Parkinson's.

Jackson was the author of several books on beer and whiskey.
