Celebrating National Hospital Week
By Azenith Smith
COQUILLE - With the sun beaming overhead, a local hospital couldn't have asked for a better day to hold their annual open house barbecue for the public.
With hamburgers sizzling on the grill and music blaring outdoors, Coquille Valley Hospital celebrated National Hospital Week in style on Thursday. The week, recognized by the American Hospital Association, gives hospitals a chance to show their community spirit. "It gives hospitals an opportunity to celebrate just all there is involved in being given the gift of taking care of people for your life's work," says CEO Dennis Zielinski. It's also a week when residents can learn more about their hospitals and see what changes have been made throughout the years, which for Coquille Valley Hospital, includes a new CT scanner this year and updated laboratory services. The hospital currently serves the Coquille River Valley community and on average, sees 4,500 patient visits alone, through their emergency department. This event is just one of may held, along with a staff appreciation breakfast and a farewell party for one of their surgeons, in honor of the week. |
