UMPQUA, Ore. -- A Coos Bay woman died in a fiery crash off a bridge Tuesday afternoon.

Teresa Winter, 49, of Coos Bay was found dead in the burned pickup.

Douglas County Sheriff's Deputies said Winter's Ford pickup was westbound on Hubbard Creek Road about three miles west of Umpqua when it went across the oncoming lane, hit the bridge railing and flew into the air.

The pickup landed on its top on the rocks in the creek bed and immediately burst into flames.

Winter was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

A logging crew leaving their work site nearby saw the fire and stopped to help.

The crew from Brownson Logging in Myrtle Creek put out the fire to keep it from spreading into the nearby brush.

County crews were on scene to check the bridge for structural damage and to repair the railing that was torn out by the impact.

Officers don't know what caused Winter to veer off the roadway.

The accident happened about 1:30 Tuesday afternoon.
