New youth football league boasts solid group of players

COOS BAY - Just a little over a month after sign-ups, the brand new South Coast Youth Football League shows encouraging signs, as over 70 kids come out to play in Coos Bay alone.

We first told you about the youth football league as it was just starting up in July.

And now, over a month later, the league is boasting a solid group of fifth and six graders, making up three teams in Coos Bay, two in North Bend and Florence and one in Coquille.

Coos Bay coach Scott Banks says the goal of the league is to teach blocking and tackling, which is new to most of the players.

Right now most teams are practicing three times a week.

The league's season runs about five to six weeks with games beginning Saturday, September 13th.

They still have a few open spots, to sign your child up, you can contact Justin Ainsworth or Quintin Hall at Marshfield High School.
