Two Reedsport public buildings will get a new roof over their head
By Erica Rush
REEDSPORT, Ore. -- Two of Reedsport's most distinguished buildings will be getting a much needed makeover to their roofs, after receiving thousands of dollars in state grants.
Reedsport's mayor, Keith Tymchuk was presented a check for $35,000 Wednesday afternoon, on behalf of the USDA Rural Development. This money will go towards repairing the City Hall and the police and fire departments' roofs. Mayor Tymchuk said, " The $35,000 that's coming in grant from Rural Development is part of a $125,000 project... so there's a lot more to this project, but having Rural Developments involvement certainly makes it more doable for the city of Reedsport." It took about one year for Reedsport to receive this state grant. Oregon's USDA Rural Director says they work hard to process each city's requests, handing out roughly $230 Million each year. "Now we don't walk into any community and say you will have a new roof for your courthouse or your jail, but we do, through our relationships with local leader, work with them to help them understand what we can do to help them achieve their goals in their community," Said Rural Development Director, Mark Simmons. The city of Reedsport plans to start construction on the roofs beginning next spring. |
