REEDSPORT, Ore. - South Coast's speeding duo slides back from the Bonneville Salt Flats with a few more notches on their record breaking belts.

Top contenders at the International Motorcycle Speed Trials in Utah, Butch Cook and Guy Mobbley, have been addicted to course since they started five years ago.

Working out of Sherms Cycle Products in Reedsport, Mobbley says they broke two more motorcycle speed records this year, for a total of nine.

"The Kawasaki that we raced this year, we had a 173 MPH was our top speed on our fastest pass. And in the Vintage Indian Motorcycle we built, we made a pass of 85 MPH, setting a new Vintage class record."

But going at speeds that high, there are obvious risks involved. Moblley says in an extremely rare incident, someone did die on the track this year. But these two dare devils say they have a need for speed, and bragging rights.

"Not everyone sets a record, and it's not always easy, even though we seem to make it look easy? I don't know, but we set records and that's why we go there, to set records, not just to race," said Moblley.

This speed trial runs the first week of every September, and is open to anyone. Registration will run you about $300. You can get a form by logging on to www.shermscycleproducts.com.
