Two pilot marine reserves sites move forward to governor

SOUTH COAST, Ore. - After two days of discussion in Lincoln City the Ocean Policy Advisory Council is recommending two pilot Marine Reserves.

One is near Port Orford and the other near Depoe Bay.

If the governor agrees to only two reserves it will be a victory for fisherman, who say reserves on top of federal and state fishing restrictions would do economic harm on the coast.

But conservation groups say this is a strong first step and say they will continue to press for more reserves.

The council has also recommended four areas of further study and discussion, one of which is Cape Arago.
