GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) — Police say five people have been arrested on drug charges in an investigation into a Southern Oregon crime operation involving sales of illicit gift cards over the Internet.

Detective Ryan Brown of the Grants Pass police says cards from stores such as Wal-Mart, Gottschalks and Macy's were obtained through fraud and have been sold on Web sites such as eBay and Craigslist.

He says experts are examining computers seized during searches, which also turned up forged identification. The five people under arrest were accused of methamphetamine possession.

He says Medford and Central Point police are helping the investigation.

Brown says people who buy gift cards online should use common sense. If the deal sounds too good to be true, he says, it probably is.
