MYRTLE POINT, Ore. - Adding on and upgrading their existing space, a food pantry and thrift store in Myrtle Point prepares to undergo some big changes for the benefit of those they serve.

This fall, the Walter Graham Myrtle Point Food Pantry and Thrift Store will go through a complete renovation.

Oregon Coast Community Action Employee John Misterly says right now the food pantry serves between 50 and 60 families a week.

With the new space, they will be able to accommodate more people and more food.

"The food pantry is going to probably increase in size by about 50 percent. New floors, new walls, new equipment, energy efficient. It's gonna be more consumer friendly."

The thrift store and office space will also receive a face lift.

Misterly once the space is closed for renovations, the pantry will relocated to the Myrtle Point School District Administration Building.

However the thrift store will be temporarily shut down so right now they are liquidating their stock.

"The food pantry will actually need a little more assistance because it won't have the thrift store funding it during the renovations. So this effort right now with the thrift store is based on helping the thrift store liquidate so they don't have to store a lot of stuff and also to raise as much money as possible toward future food purchases," says Misterly.

The Walter Graham Food Pantry and Thrift Store is located at 1320 Maryland Street in Myrtle Point.

It will be open through September 18th.
