Bradbury 90% certain on run for Governor
By Tim NovotnyCOOS BAY, ORE - After two terms as Oregon's Secretary of State, what do you do for an encore? That is the question that has been facing Bill Bradbury, who has been touring the state in search of an answer. The Bandon resident has been exploring whether or not to run for Governor, after having served as Secretary of State from 1999 to 2008. He is among a handful who are giving serious thought to a Gubernatorial run, and he was back on the South Coast this past weekend to hear from constituents there. At a 'Meet and Greet' event in the Black Market Gourmet in Downtown Coos Bay he said he was leaning about 90-percent in favor of declaring to run. "Basically, you have to approach it...'what do I really believe in?', 'what do the people of the state really care about?' and do those two fit together? If they do, it makes sense to pursue the Governorship." While the decision on whether or not to run has not yet been firmly settled, the issues that Bradbury believes would need his attention as Governor are clear-cut. "Obviously, jobs is number one. We really have a new economy developing in Oregon, we really need to support that. And we got to figure out how to pay for education in the state, that includes K through 12, it includes community colleges, it includes higher ed." He says the job of Governor is to bring people together to solve those problems. As for a timetable to determine if he wants to be that Governor, he says a 'final' decision on whether or not to run is likely just a couple of weeks away. |
