Kentuck Golf Course closes for good
By Erica Rush, KCBY NewsNORTH BEND, Ore, - After being opened for more than four decades, Kentuck Golf has apparently run its course, as it closes its doors for good. On Monday, as many as 100 golfers came out to tee off for the final time at Kentuck Golf Course on East Bay Drive. According to Wally Culp, he's been working there for past 30 years. His Grandfather grandfather originally purchased the place back in 1964. Once over-run with avid golfers, it all changed when the back nine was flooded for more than a month back in 2001. According to Culp, there just wasn't enough business to keep the place open past this summer. "Barely making from month to month all summer," says Culp. "And after this month is dropped down, I'd have to give my employees iou's or shut the doors." Golfers we spoke with were openly disappointed about the news. According to Brothers, Colton and Blake Holmes, "It's a really nice course." Colton adds, "We just have to find somewhere else to play now. It's a shame that it's going to end, you know we got to play it." Another golfer added, "An era is gone and so it's just the way it is. It's gone." As for now, the property is currently being looked at by the Jordan Cove Energy Project for wetland mitigation, who have an option buy-out until next summer. The course officially closed Monday evening. |
