MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) — Jackson County sheriff's deputies have joined the investigation of a fatal shooting in neighboring Douglas County.

Jackson County sheriff's Detective Colin Fagan says whoever killed 59-year-old Barbara Lea Tooley of Damascus may have passed through Jackson County.

A second woman, 88-year-old Helen Berleta Long of Glendale, narrowly survived the attack in her home town on Oct. 1. Douglas County sheriff's Detective Jeff Wheaton says Long was too badly injured to be interviewed, but investigators are hoping she will be able to recover and give an account at some point.

Authorities are seeking a man in a truck who may have worn a fake beard. Evidence from the house where the shooting occurred has been submitted to the Oregon State Police for analysis.

Anyone who has seen an individual or vehicle matching these descriptions should contact the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Tip Line at (541) 957-2099. Anonymous tips may also be left on a Web site for the victims.
