COQUILLE, ORE - Some Coos County buildings will be reducing their carbon footprint thanks to money from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Six county buildings will be replacing their light fixtures with ones that are more efficient.

The light fixtures in the Coos County Courthouse are so old that Commissioner Nikki Whitty says that pretty soon the light bulbs won't be made anymore.

Whitty says they will see savings of somewhere between $18,000 and $25,000/year in electricity costs.

The County is expected to receive $26,000 from the Recovery Act to aid in the replacing of the fixtures. They will also be upgrading the boiler in the courthouse building, moving from Diesel fuel from Portland to Natural Gas.

Whitty says other grants and tax credits are in the works to complete the energy efficiency projects.
