ODFW Commissioner tours Millicoma Fishery
Millicoma Interpretive Center, near Allegany- The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife welcomes a new Commissioner to the board, with a real drive to learn and understand the many policies and issues of the local district.
ODFW Commissioner Bobby Levy toured the four local STEP facilities including the Millicoma Interpretive Center near Allegany.
Levy hopes all of the relevant fish and wildlife information she's learning at the center can be passed on to younger minds to keep them engaged in the great outdoors.
Levy says, "Fish and Wildlife needs to be more evident in school so as students grow older, they'll have more of an interest in fishing and hunting. The more we make it a fun and interesting thing for children and families to do, the more it will grow throughout their lifetime."
At the Millicoma Center, volunteers teach children about spawning habitats, fish tagging and they even get the opportunity to fish in a Rainbow trout pond.
Levy says the learning experience wouldn't be possible without the dedication of these Fish and Wildlife volunteers.
"people really want to volunteer for the fishing and hunting, and they enjoy doing it, so I'm really pleased to be a part of it."
Levy intends on using the information she learned at the Millicoma Center to get her up to speed with the upcoming fish regulation meetings.
