COOS BAY, Ore. -In addition to the holiday season, it's also appears to be contract season for two local school districts. North Bend met with their school board earlier this week and on Tuesday, it was Coos Bay Educators who posted-up outside the Administrative Office at Milner Crest.

Following months of unresolved contract negotiations, Tuesday marked the official start to a maximum five-meeting mediation process, between the Coos Bay Education Association and School District.

Out front waving signs and chanting for a fair pay, were dozens of members from Coos Bay schools, as well as some from North Bend, and other various supporters.

The CBEA's contracts expired at the end of July but they've been battling contract negotiations since March.

April Hoy, with the CBEA said, "We feel the current offer, offers us less money for the same, if not more work and we're hoping there's some movement this evening. We feel our side has made some movement and the board has not and so we just came out as a show of support for our team."

The Mediator will meet with each side separately, to try and resolve the disagreements once and for all. Some of the major conflicts are salaries and health care coverage.

"For all the new teachers, it doesn't have the step, and that's a financial impact, especially for young families who have children." Hoy added, "The other factor is, is the cost of insurance. It's gone up, and they've offered at the moment, nothing on the pay scales, so that's the main impact, is the insurance."

The CBEA said they're not looking for raises, just a fair contract.
