Coos Bay - War veterans and community members came together Saturday to remember fallen soldiers and others who rest in Marshfield Pioneer Cemetery.

The Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony, organized by Marshfield High School Students, was held in honor of veterans and those who died in combat.

It was also a time to dedicate two headstones for World War I veterans who died in military service and currently have unmarked graves at the cemetery.

Mayor Jeff McKeown welcomed the crowd, there was also a reading of the Gettysburg Address, a roll call of veterans who were laid to rest in the cemetery, and the playing of taps.

Student Becky Soules, who headed up the event, called on citizens in the community to "adopt a plot" and care for a part of the cemetery not only to honor the fallen veterans, but everyone who is laid to rest there.
