COOS BAY, Ore. - If you were shopping at McKay's in downtown Coos Bay Thursday, you may have noticed a group of men dressed up as clowns shopping in the aisles.

So what exactly were they doing?

The local Shriner's clowns, were helping shop for the upcoming Bus Jam 2009 this Saturday.

The group heard about the Bus Jam, which collects new toys, food items, and clothing for families in need, and knew they needed to get involved.

"Because of the needs in the community at this time, we feel it's important to encourage others to give back. And interestingly enough, we came up with a small amount we were going to contribute and McKay's market is matching it," said Shriner's clown Al Pearn.

All the food they collected will join other donations that will be stuffed in the back of one of two buses parked in front of the Coos Bay and North Bend Bi-Mart stores this Saturday.

Pearn says the support from the community for this project is overwhelming.

"We said that we would put in $100 right out of our treasury which is kind of, that's expensive money, hard to come by. And as I came in today, a lady had left a check for $20 for me."

If you would like to donate new toys, food or clothes to the Bus Jam, top by either bay area bi-Mart location from 10 to 3 this Saturday.
