Bus Jam '09 'largest ever'
By Nicole Plascencia KCBY NewsNORTH BEND, Ore.- About half way through the K-DOCK Radio and Rotary Club sponsored Bus Jam on Saturday the bus was already filled with nearly 2,000 pounds of stuff and that was only the North Bend Bi-Mart location. Over the past 7 years more than 35,000 pounds of food has been collected. This year K-DOCK estimates that nine palates of food at about 8,000 to 9,000 pounds total was donated, in addition to money that will be converted to food as well bringing the total number of food donations to between 13,000 to 15,000 pounds. "Even though the economic times are improving somewhat it's still pretty tough out there and I am absolutely amazed year after year what this county does in the form of donations, it's amazing," says K-DOCK General Manager Stephanie Kilmer. The items collected through this fundraiser stay local and some distributed through Oregon Coast Community Action. "Because the holiday's are coming and everyone is feeling the pinch this is really important for the children and families of the South Coast," says Madeline Enos with ORCCA. Kilmer says the bus at the Coos Bay Bi-Mart location was completely filled and the bus at the North Bend location came pretty close. If families would like to participate that can be done by leaving a message at this hot-line number: 541-888-7037. |
