Crooks makes a deal for Manslaughter

COQUILLE, Ore. -A Coos Bay man avoids a murder charge, after pleading guilty to Manslaughter Thursday, in a Coos County court room.

Nickolas Crooks, 60, was originally arrested in May on a murder charge in connection to the shooting death of his half-brother, Kevin Nelson, 52.

according to the Circuit Courts, Crooks stuck a deal with the prosecutors to swap a Murder with a Firearm charge, for Manslaughter Two.

A Class B Felony, Crooks will now face sentencing on January 4, which will be at least six years in prison, with a maximum of ten. Plus a $250,000 fine. Until then, he'll remain behind bars at the Coos County Jail.
