COOS BAY, ORE - A crowd of about 400 gathered at Southwestern Oregon Community College to hear from one of the country's leading anti-sexist male activists, as he challenged men to stamp out Domestic Violence.

Receiving a warm welcome from those gathered, Jackson Katz, who has been internationally recognized for his work in the field of gender violence prevention among men and boys, said Domestic Violence is really a men's issue.

In particular, he says, his focus is on men who consider themselves good guys and non-abusive. "It's on those guys and what we need to be doing to speak out, to challenge each other, to provide leadership to younger men. In a general sense, to break our silence."

The Women's Safety and Resource Center also took the opportunity to unveil their new program in Coos County called "We know DV."

Judy Moody says it's going to be an eight month campaign to raise awareness about Domestic Violence. "It's educating the community about a crime that's very complex."
