BANDON, Ore. -Bandon High School's girls JV basketball team was stranded on HWY 101 early Saturday morning, when their school bus crashed on their way back from a game, sending the driver to the hospital.

Oregon State Police responded to the crash just after 12:30 am on Saturday, near mile post 255, North of Bandon.

The school bus, driven by Sandra Klein, 60, was returning from an away game at Rogue River High School.

According to the police report, Klein lost control negotiating a curve at the bottom of a hill. The bus traveled off the roadway onto the Southbound shoulder and went up an embankment knocking down a highway sign. It then re-entered the road and traveled back across both lanes and crashed into the highway guardrail on the Northbound shoulder.

None of the 14 girls or two coaches requested medical treatment at the time but Klein, the driver, was not using safety restraints and was thrown from her seat. She was transported by ambulance to Bay Area Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Some family members came to the scene and took their students back to Bandon. Others returned on a second bus that was dispatched to the scene by school district officials.

The investigation is still ongoing.
