Where to get rid of old prescription meds
By Kristina Nelson, KCBY NewsNORTH BEND, Ore. - Don't know what to do with all those unused prescription medications in your medicine cabinet? This weekend, local law enforcement officials can take them off your hands at a free event. This Saturday, anyone with unwanted or expired medications can drop them off at North Bend City Hall or Coquille City Hall. It's all part of the Southwestern Oregon Medical Alliance's Prescription Drug Turn-In Event. "People all over have drugs that have been prescribed by the doctor and they're either have not taken them all or they become expired before they finish taking them. We don't want one of them to put them in the trash because of what might happen, somebody might go through the trash and pick them out," says Alliance board member Vicki Morgan. Drugs that can be turned over include any unwanted prescription meds, drugs that are no long used, and unknown tablets and capsules. "The police will take them, secure them and lock them up after it's done. Then they'll take them to the Beaver Hill dump site and they will be incinerated." It's important to note this event is for individuals only, medications can't be accepted from businesses such as nursing homes or doctor's offices. Again the event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday. For more information contact Vicki Morgan at 541-267-3969. |
