COOS BAY, Ore. -Still in the construction phase, folks couldn't wait to get into the new Coos Bay Fire Station to see how things are shaping up.

Hundreds poured into the new site on Elrod in Coos Bay on Saturday for the fire department's public walk through.

With wires exposed and dry wall still coming up people got to see the real guts that have gone into putting this building together. And while the finish project is still a few months out, Rod Lee with Team Construction says there's already been so much interest from the public, that they wanted to open their doors up earlier for people to see just what this $7 million project is funding.

"The progress on the building has been very good. We thank our sub contractors for that, we thank the community here for their support," said Lee. He adds, ''It's a station that should serve the community in excess of 50 years, should be around a long, long time. And I think they all believe their tax dollars are being used wisely."

And for the most part, folks we spoke with were more than impressed with this facility.

"My feel for this place is just it's perfect for the Bay Area," said Reni Woods. "The facility is going to be superb, probably the best in the state."

According to Lee, the station should be complete come May.
