Students showcase their work at the Coos Art Museum
By Erica Rush, KCBY NewsCOOS BAY, Ore. -An annual art show brings out a youthful talent, as students in the area compete for scholarships prizes. Nearly 20 students received an award Friday night for the Coos Art Museum's annual high school art competition, "Vision 2010." Underwritten by Southwestern Oregon Community College Foundation, students from the surrounding counties submitted their art of choice for a shot at a cash prize, including a two-year tuition waiver at SOCC. Now Alyssa Findley, a Junior at Myrtle Point High School didn't place this year but she's still happy to showcase her work here at the museum. "I'm representing myself though my Native American heritage and my Grandma was a big inspiration in this because she is Native American, which is where I get it from," said Findley. "So the colors represent me, and things like the mask and stuff." The Vision Exhibition runs coincides with the museum's 2010 Biennial Student Art Exhibit, that features work created by students from preschool through 12th grade in Coos and Curry Counties. Both shows are currently on display from now until April 10. |
