NORTH BEND, Ore.- From late models to mud drags and sprint cars, drivers have their cars all shined up and ready to battle it out on the speedway, but not before putting in some hard work in between seasons.

"These guys put a lot of effort into their cars... they actually tear these cars apart and put them all back together, freshen their motors, new paint jobs, new body," says Speedway manager Drake Nelson of the street stock and late model drivers.

Racing started this month and coming up on March 27, Nelson says, is a challenge to the mud truck community.

"Oregon Coast thinks they have the biggest, baddest, fastest trucks around and they're challenging anyone that thinks they can beat their trucks to come on out and burn off through the mud and see who's got the biggest, baddest truck," says Nelson.

Nelson is the new manager for the Coos Bay Speedway and says he anticipates this year will be a good one. He attributes that notion to top notch quality drivers and racers from all over the West Coast they'll be bringing to the Bay Area this year.

The cars will remain on display at the Pony Village Mall through Saturday, March 20.
