COOS BAY, Ore. -A view comes at a high price for the Coos Bay Urban Renewal Agency, after agreeing Tuesday night to pay top dollar for the Wayside parking area, over looking Empire.

A master plan for the Hollering Place Property was approved back in January for roughly $54,000. However concern about the unfavorable North and South direction of of the parking spaces resulted in more option layouts.

But much to URA President Gene Melton's surprise, all suggested layouts far exceeded their original budget.

"Can the original layout be reconfigured to so what we're trying to do with either 6 or 7 and still accomplish the same thing." said Melton.

According to City Engineer Carl Nolte, the major difference would mean less square footage and three less parking spaces, compared to the Community Coalition of Empire's desired option layout, number six.

Although the cost is nearly double than anticipated, the majority of Agency Members, including Mayor Jeff McKeown agreed now is not the time to cut corners.

"Initially I was resistant, thinking, you know, we need to conserve that money. I think layout six is the perfect option. I think it would give us something down there that we're proud of and the better it looks, I think it's only going to help the development, " said McKeown.

As of now, the ten space parking lot is slated to run the Agency more than $100,000 but Nolte says that's likely to decrease because of the agency's decision to relocate the RV spaces from above, down below in order to protect the view.
