Coos Bay - A local chapter of a national political party started right here in Oregon, began a series of classes Thursday night at the Coos Bay Library aimed at educating the public on the fundamentals our country was founded on.

Members of the Constitution Party gathered with interested community members to begin a series of 12 classes centered around the Constitution including it's history and background.

"We're aware of the fact that the Constitution is something that people aren't really being taught or know about these days, and we're trying to teach this to our community," says Coos County Constitution Party Chairman Steven Noorlander.

The classes coincide with the upcoming anniversary of the signing on the Constitution on September 17, 1787.

According to Noorlander, the first five classes involve the history of the document, while the later classes dig into what it means and represents.

The Constitution Party was formed in 1996 with the goal of preserving the Constitution and what it stands for.

All community members are encouraged to attend the rest of the classes which will be held on a bi-monthly basis at the Coos Bay Library.
