COOS BAY, Ore. - As a way of exercising your body and mind to the sound of music, some elderly members in the community get introduced to the art of Conductorcise.

Promoting wellness through a unique program, the stretching and flexing all starts with the raise of your baton.

But according to maestro David Dworkin, there's a lot more happening here.

Dozens of members from Ocean Ridge and Ocean Crest Assisted Living facilities participated in the demonstration Wednesday afternoon, where they moved to the symphonic sounds, at their individual levels.

Dworkin, who's been a professional musician for over 55 years, says music is healing, and not only does this program allow people to move,  but learn as well.

"Yes I conduct. While I'm doing that and they are moving, I'm telling them about the instruments they're hearing and that creates brain activity.  So they're being made aware of conversations and of color and of movement."

Both facilities say they're going to continue to offer Conductorcise on a regular basis.
