COOS BAY, Ore. - Back to school shopping is just around the corner, but for some kids who can't afford to buy what they need, the Coos Bay School District is stepping in to help.

The school district recently launched their annual Operation Backpack program.

From now through the end of August, folks can donate new school supplies to the district, to help out students who can't afford to buy supplies on their own.

"It's getting real expensive and they're coming to school without the tools they need to be successful," says CBSD Administrative Assistant Peggy Ahlgrim. "We're asking for either actual supply donations or cash and check."

The district needs all kinds of donations including number two pencils, pens, glue sticks and spiral notebooks just to name a few.

Ahlgrim says these donations make a big difference for some students.

"They come to school with, their not different then the other students. It just makes such a difference to have new supplies, you can see it on their faces when they come in. Everybody loves a new backpack for the first day of school."

To find a list of supplies log onto the Coos Bay School District website, http://cbd9.net/.

All donations are tax-deductible.
